In 2021, Engles received their BFA in Painting and Ceramics from the University of Memphis.  At the University of Memphis, Engles was awarded an Honors Research Fellowship to study additive manufacturing in ceramics under Kate Roberts in 2019.  Engles currently lives in Philadelphia where they received their Master of Fine Art in Painting at Tyler School of Art and Architecture. While at Tyler they focused on researching the intersections of gendered embodiment and painting and have been exploring decolonial and feminist approaches to representing the figure. They write about their research on their blog, transgressions. As a result of this research, they were awarded a Project Completion Grant Fellowship from Temple University in the spring of 2024.

While at Tyler, Engles was a leader in the Graduate Arts Collective at Tyler School of Art and Architecture, and used their position to build community, organize MFA Open Studios, and facilitate student shows.  They served as the liaison between TUGSA and GAC, and in the spring of 2023 served as a strike coordinator during the union’s negotiations for a new contract and subsequent strike.
